EEI Corporation Joint Venture Company in Saudi Arabia Al Rushaid Construction Co.,
Ltd. (ARCC) signs PhP 8.0Billion contract with EPC Company Samsung Saudi Arabia Co.,
Ltd. on November 13, 2022 for the construction of the Jafurah Gas Processing
Facility (JGPF1) Project. EEI holds 49% share in the JV while Al Rushaid Petroleum
Investment Company keeps the majority.
The JGPF1 is one of the three major work packages in the Jafurah Unconventional Gas
Plant Project of the Jafurah Gas Field Development that is claimed to be the world’s
biggest shale gas field outside the US. The other two packages are the Gas
Compression Plant and the Utilities and Interconnecting Facilities. The gas field
lies southeast of the Ghawar oil field, 190 km from Jubail, Eastern Region, Saudi
Arabia.
The new gas terminal will process up to 1.1 billion cubic feet per day of
unconventional (shale) raw gas from nearby areas, producing sales gas, ethane,
natural gas liquids and condensate. The plant is part of Saudi Aramco’s plan to
produce 3 billion standard cubic feet of unconventional gas over the next ten years
and is intended to supply natural gas for domestic power generation as well as
valuable feedstock for petrochemical production, as part of the kingdom’s vision
2030 economic strategy to diversify away from oil.
ARCC’s work scope includes the construction of two trains, each handling about 550
million cubic feet per day of raw gas. The process units would include gas
separation, booster compression, acid gas removers, NGL equipment and other
associated surface facilities required for the gas plant. Construction period will
be 34 months, expecting completion by September 2025 with a peak manpower compliment
of 1,903 men.
